Sales data indicate that Americans are buying more LED holiday lights than ever before. It is assumed LEDs accounted for 25 to 50% of the total holiday light sales this year despite the fact that LEDs can cost up to twice as much as conventional, old holiday lights.
This is most likely due to the high efficiency and money-saving qualities of LED lighting systems. According to Energy Star, LEDs use up to 90% less energy to produce the same amount of light as old holiday lights and can last up to 10 times longer. LEDs are also "much more durable, [run] cooler, pose lower fire risks and cost less to operate."
It is apparent that LEDs are gaining popularity in US markets. Perhaps holiday lighting is the starting point for consumers to trial LED lighting in every day applications.
