"In just over a year, PECO provided $8 million dollars in rebates to 78,000 residential, business, government, non-profit and institutional customers that installed energy efficiency measures. In total, participating customers have saved over $68 million dollars in electricity costs.
PECO launched the Smart Ideas campaign in October 2009 to comply with Act 129, which requires electric utilities in the state to reduce their overall electricity load - by 1 percent by 2011 and by 3 percent by 2013, and reduce peak demand by 4.5 percent by 2013 - by offering customers a portfolio of energy efficiency and conservation programs.
PECO is also the first utility in the state to meet the 1 percent energy savings target, roughly 419 gigawatt-hours, as required by the Energy Savings legislation, Act 129. According to the company this has the same environmental impact as not driving 457 million miles or planting nearly 440,000 trees.
