"Once again, the hard work of USGBC's member organizations in transforming the buildings marketplace is paying off. Following on the release of the "Existing Authorities" report (PDF) last year and on a memo (PDF) cosigned earlier this year by USGBC, the Real Estate Roundtable, and member organizations the Natural Resources Defense Council and Johnson Controls, the Obama administration last week announced its Better Buildings Initiative. This plan acts on some of the president's existing authorities under law to pave the way for a more-efficient building stock, following closely the recommendations made in the memo. President Obama also called on Congress to encourage retrofits in commercial buildings by revising the tax deduction for efficient commercial facilities."
