Russia to Join Global Trend of Phasing Out Incandescents
Following the steps of the European Union, it was announced October 9, 2009 that Russia plans to ban the production and sale of all incandescent bulbs by 2014. With the motive to reduce energy consumption, industry bodies have asserted that thousands of jobs could be lost in the EU (mainly in Eastern Europe) as the new regulations will favor China-based manufacturers of CFLs.
